Manual Lymphatic Drainage
The lymphatic system plays a vital role in the body by regulating the immune system. If the lymphatic system is not working properly, lymphatic fluid starts to build up and stagnates leading to fluid retention or swelling.
Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is a gentle, pain-free, pressure body massage technique which helps the body’s lymphatic system. MLD helps to clear blockages in the lymphatic system, eliminates metabolic waste and toxins from the body and helps in the transport of nutrients to cells. The gentle rhythmic movement of the skin also has a calming effect on the nervous system.
MLD works by encouraging the lymphatic system to contract, promotes the release of lymphatic fluid from the tissue, and facilitates the movement of any accumulated fluid through the lymphatic system. The lymphatic fluid is then moved toward the lymph nodes where it can be processed and filtered.
