Kinesiology taping

What is it?

We have all seen this multi coloured tape on elite athletes and I was curious as to know how (and if!) it works.

I was a little sceptical when I saw it but having spoken to a number of physiotherapists who rave about it, I decided to find out more and went on a course.

This type of taping was developed in the 1990's and has been used by major sports teams and physiotherapists since.

The theory behind it is that the tape "off loads" the tissue and helps circulation and lymphatic drainage. It also has an effect on the nervous system to help reduce pain and relax muscles.

I have found it really useful to prolong the effect of treatment and to aid a more rapid return to sport.

There is no difference in the colours - that's just to make it look pretty!

It can be used to help:

  • Achilles Tendonitis
  • Shoulder problems
  • Low back pain
  • Whiplash
  • Swelling associated with sprained ankles etc
  • Hamstring and calf injuries
  • Tennis elbow
  • Haematoma (severe bruising)
  • and lots more!

If you need taping as part of your treatment there is no additional charge for the tape.
